One Room Challenge (Dining Room) -Week 1

Woohoo!! I have been waiting for months for the One Room Challenge to start so I can finally begin sharing and working on the design of our new dining room!!  If you're not familiar with the challenge let me explain some of the details...

One Room Challenge Link up page...Guest Participant

The One Room Challenge is a biannual interior design event  (held every April & October).  The main media partner that sponsors the challenge is House Beautiful!!  There are 20 featured designers chosen each challenge as well as guest bloggers...as in yours truly :)...who take on a neglected room in their house and completely transform it! We have six weeks from start to finish to make our designs become our reality.  Each week I will be sharing updates and little peeks into what I accomplish.  The blog posts will go live every Thursday up until the big reveal on May 11th! I've already partnered up with some of my absolute favorite brands like Lexmod Furniture , Bealls Outlet and Wallpops to help bring my vision to life!!

Okay so lets kick this challenge off!! Don't be scared as I share some current dining room pictures below...

Okay so here we go...we moved in November and I purchased this large area rug knowing that one day I would design this room around it.

I also had the beaded chandelier installed when we moved in.

Those two new pieces I spent months picking out and then the room progress came to a halt.  The dining table is our old one (when I say old I mean maybe two years old) so it was comming with us along with the four dining chairs.  I believe our style evolves especially when we move into a new house.  That being said I am no longer happy with the four dining chairs.  However, with two children who constantly have dirty little hands covering these parson chairs in slipcovers will be a nightmare.  Like one big washing and ironing slip covers weekly nightmare.  Something has to give though because I'm not feeling the dark material or the style of them.

The buffet is staying as well and it keeps playing walls trying to figure out which wall will be the focal/accent wall.  I have turned this table and the rug multiple times but I'm 99% sure it will be staying this direction now.

So for the fun images...here's a look at what I'm using as design inspiration.

This COLOR! Loving how this blue is coastal and calming and still works with all the other blues in the house.

Coastal. Coastal. Coastal.

Ideally I would love to cover my chairs like this but it is just not realistic for my household.  But still...swoon!

Thinking chairs along this style could be an option. Ahh! Have I mentioned how
E X C I T E D I am for this!!

So here is what I know:
I love my rug.
I love my chandy.
I want coastal...but not over the top beachy.
I want calming.
I want color.
I want texture.

I hope you all follow along each week and stop by (Thursdays) to see what I've been up to!  I have so many ideas and am equally terrified as I am excited to begin!

XOXO

Tracy

4 Tips for Selling Your Home!

*Sponsored Post. Thank you to our talented guest blogger, Alex Berger, for sharing these 4 tips on selling your home!* Selling your home can be extremely stressful, but if you are in the beginning stages of the home selling process, I have a few tips for you! About four years ago, my parents packed up their home and moved from Marietta, Georgia to Amelia Island, which is about 30-40 minutes from the Jacksonville airport. They had no idea what to expect when it came to buying in a city that was completely new to them (they had only visited Jacksonville once - for two days!), so it was pretty stressful for them. Now, looking back, they could have done many things differently in order to make the process a lot easier for themselves, especially when it came to selling their home. But, since the selling process is so complex and stressful, a lot of people do it “wrong,” and they are just one of many, which is why I want to help. Here are a few tips for selling your home. Hopefully...
